    Special Activities

G-77 - UNIDO Joint Development Initiative in Central America "Technical Skills Training and Entrepreuneurship Development for School Leavers in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua" - funding provided by the Government of Austria

The aim of this pilot project is to train 50 interested school leavers, as future entrepreneurs (both men and women) aged 18 and above, from Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They will be trained in food processing, marketing and product development, diversification, improving business performance and profitability, management of quality, cleaner production technologies, standardization and certification issues. At the same time these young people will be instructed on how to develop and use monitoring indicators. This would result in a concrete employment promotion and entrepreneurship development venture, whereby support is provided by an ongoing UNIDO project US/CAM/97/140: Integrated Human Resources Development of Women Entrepreneurs in Food Processing in Central America. A twinning is to take place with the Central American project in order to use expertise and experience. The Austrian authorities have accepted to fund this pilot project in the amount of US$ 113,000. The project was officially completed in 2003.
