Sri Lanka, at the Official Launching of the World Drug Report Vienna, 26 June 2014
Excellencies,
Mr. Chairman,
1. On behalf of the Group of 77 and China, allow me to express our great satisfaction at the official launching of the World Drug Report 2014 here in Vienna. Let me take this opportunity to convey our deep appreciation to Mr. Yuri Fedotov, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for his efforts leading to the realization of this event here in Vienna.
2. We would also like to convey our appreciation to our chairman H.E Ambassador Khaled Abdelrahman Abdellatif SHAMAA of Egypt, for giving us this opportunity to speak at this important event. Special thanks also goes to the Secretariat for organizing this event and for the excellent preparation of the launch of this years´s World Drug Report.

3. The United Nations headquarters in Vienna, which is the seat of the UNODC and the INCB, welcomes every year the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, as governing body of the three Conventions related to the World drug problem. Therefore, we encourage UNODC to continue its work in the future to present the World Drug Report here in Vienna.
4. While taking this opportunity to celebrate the International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit drug trafficking, we would like to reiterate that the world drug problem, which remains a common and shared responsibility, should be addressed in a multilateral setting through effective and increased international and regional cooperation. In this regard, we would like to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to ensure that the above approach should be in full conformity with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, international law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and in particular with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States as well as for the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of States.
