Statement of the G77 and China delivered by H.E. Ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh,
Permanent Representative of the IR of Iran, during the 54th reconvened session
of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, 12-13 December 2011

Madam Chair,
On behalf of the Group of 77 and China, I would like to express our appreciation
to the outgoing chair of CND Ambassador Veronika Kuchynova Smigolova from Czech
Republic and the members of the Extended Bureau. Under her excellent leadership,
the Commission adopted a number of important decisions at the fifty-fourth session
of CND. She created the atmosphere where it was possible to discuss important
issues in a cordial atmosphere, which helped in reaching compromises smoothly.
The fifty-fourth session of CND was important due to the fact that the concept
of roundtables was initiated at the Commission. The G-77 and China considers
it appropriate to express its satisfaction on the work of the roundtables.
The Group also wishes to acknowledge the contribution of the Secretariat, particularly
of Mr. Andres Finguerut, the Secretary of the Commission, in preparing the documents
and assisting the Commission. The Group wishes him success in his new responsibility
and welcomes Ms. Jo DedyneAman as the new Secretary of the Commission.
We look forward towards continuing the same tradition of close cooperation with
the new chair of CND and the members of the Bureau.
