of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, 6-15 June 2012, delivered

Mr. Chairman,
1. Allow me to express on behalf of the Group of 77 and China my warm congratulations to you on your election, as well as to the other members of the Bureau to conduct the proceedings of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) 55th session. I assure you the full support of the Group on your task.
2. Let me also express our gratitude to the Secretariat for the preparation of this meeting and for making the documents available.

3. The Group of 77 and China would like to express its support to the requests for admission presented by Armenia, Costa Rica and Jordan to be part of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. These requests show the increasing awareness on the potential, importance and impact that space activities have today in our countries.
