Statement of the Group of 77 and China on the occasion of the First Meeting of the Working Group on Financing the Agency's Activities

Madame Co-Chair, Mr. Co-Chair:
The Group of 77 and China would like to commend you both, Ambassador Paradas and Ambassador Oyugi, for having taken up the joint chairmanship of the Working Group on Financing the Agency's Activities.
This Working Group is the tangible result of the agreement reached among Member States on the Proposal by the Chair of the Working Group on the Programme and Budget and the TCF targets for 2014-2015, which was approved by the Board of Governors at its session of 31 July 2013, as document GOV/2013/30/Rev.1.
The Group looks forward to a constructive engagement on the part of all Member States in the deliberations of this Working Group. It hopes that, under the deft guidance of its Co-Chairs, substantive exchanges of views will pave the way to a broad-based consensus on issues of great importance for the financing of the activities of the Agency, as are the ways and means to render resources for the Technical Cooperation Fund sufficient, assured and predictable, in accordance with the mandate given to this Working Group by the Board Of Governors, and as approved by the General Conference at its fifty-seventh session.
The Co-Chairs and the Chair of the Board of Governors can count on the support of the Group of 77 and China in the task ahead.
